The Leon is based on the same platform as the Volkswagen Golf but offers much better exterior looks, which reminds a little bit of an Alfa 156. Purchasing a pre-owned exemplar is a great alternative for the Volkswagen’s models. You get the same quality for a lower price, while the styling is much better. The well proven engine line-up consists of seven units mated to the manual five and six-speed gearboxes. The entry-level used Seat Leon is a 102 BHP, 1.6 litre petrol unit which in my opinion is underpowered. There are also three 2.0-litre petrol engines, a 148 BHP normally aspirated version and the 197 BHP and 237 BHP turbo types, which have brilliant acceleration and a sporty character. When it comes to the diesels, most of the used Seat Leon models were equipped with the 103 BHP, 1.9 litre TDI which has a good, solid mid-range punch. However, an even better option would be finding an exemplar with 138 BHP 2.0-litre TDI units which is more refined and delivers excellent performance. The cabin of the used Seat Leon is roomy and offers decent amount of space for the front passengers, however, those seating at the back might feel a little bit cramped during longer trips. All the instruments are well located and easy accessible, while the supportive seats give good holding on the corners. Every used Seat Leon was also fitted with six standard airbags and a whole range of active safety software, including traction and stability programmes. Overall, the Leon is an attractive car with a spacious, comfortable cabin and has a good range of engines that makes it a serious contender for the competition.
